The existing raised beds will be removed from the outdoor classroom and new raised beds will be constructed of cedar or black locust. Both cedar and black locust are both hard woods and rot resistant and are therefore good for raised beds.
Existing raised beds
The existing raised beds were built in 2011 and have begun to deteriorate. They are 4 feet wide by 17 feet long. They will be removed and the greenhouse will take their place.
New raised beds
Four new raised beds will be built of cedar or black locust. They will each be eight feet long by four feet wide. The height of set one will be two feet and the height of set two will be 16 inches.
The raised beds will cost between $2,300 and $2,700. Depending on current prices, the cost for the wood will be $2,100-$2,500. The screws are expected to be an additional $200.
